Gibbs and DiNozzo are back together again in the epic "NCIS: Origins" reunion, a decade in the making.

Mark Harmon (Leroy Jethro Gibbs) and Michael Weatherly (Tony DiNozzo) will reunite onscreen for the first time in 10 years on the "NCIS" prequel, CBS announced Tuesday, Oct. 13.

"You're home. And home means family," Gibbs says, stepping off the elevator at the NCIS office in a preview of the episode posted on the official "NCISverse" Instagram page. "And whether it's been 10 minutes or 10 years, when you need them, family is always there."

The homecoming moment brings together two of the franchise's most beloved characters and the actors who worked side by side for 13 seasons on the original "NCIS." Gibbs was the gruff, no-nonsense boss and mentor to DiNozzo, his wisecracking second-in-command.

In "Origins," Harmon's Gibbs will return to NCIS headquarters in Washington, D.C., to seek help from his former subordinate, DiNozzo (Weatherly), who is now the agency's director, after Gibbs was shot by unknown assailants in the Oct. 6 season premiere.

The clip shows Gibbs walking around the office, his backpack slung over his shoulder. He knocks and walks into the office with DiNozzo's director's nameplate. The door closes. The full reunion will have to wait.

Weatherly departed "NCIS" in 2016 but returned for a brief cameo in the stellar 2024 episode "The Stories We Leave Behind," which paid tribute to beloved medical examiner Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard, played by the late David McCallum.

Harmon continued playing Gibbs until his own departure in 2021. But both characters are back in action this fall. Harmon, who also serves as executive producer of "NCIS: Origins," is starring in Season 3 of the prequel series as part of a present-day mystery connected to young Gibbs' (Austin Stowell) days at Camp Pendleton in the 1990s.

Weatherly, meanwhile, returned to the original "NCIS" as DiNozzo in its Season 24 premiere Oct. 6, setting the stage for the long-awaited reunion.

The reunion "NCIS: Origins" episode airs Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS, and can be streamed on Paramount+.

Will there be more NCIS-verse cameos?

You can count on that in the exploding NCIS-verse. "NCIS" veteran Brian Dietzen also made a crossover appearance as medical examiner Dr. Jimmy Palmer in the Oct. 6 series premiere of "NCIS: New York," alongside LL Cool J's Sam Hanna.

CBS also announced a two-part "NCIS" crossover event for Nov. 11, bringing together the flagship series and prequel "NCIS: Origins" to solve this case spanning decades. In a video announcement, "NCIS" star Wilmer Valderrama and "Origins" star Stowell teased the special event, with Valderrama calling it "an NCIS crossover event like no other."
