Kate Middleton won't join Prince William in Brazil for a key royal outing.

The Prince of Wales, 43, is set to travel solo to Rio de Janeiro for his Earthshot Prize awards ceremony on Nov. 5. The Earthshot Prize "searches the world for environmental solutions that show the greatest potential." During the event, William and a distinguished prize council will announce the five winners with a prize of £1 million, or around $1.3 million.

This year, Brazilian native Gisele Bündchen is joining the prize council, alongside broadcaster and conservationist Sir David Attenborough, actress Cate Blanchett, chef José Andrés and World Trade Organization director-general Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Following the events in Rio, William will then head to the UN climate conference in Belém, Brazil, on Nov. 6.

Meanwhile, Princess Kate will be staying home with the couple's three children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7.

The Princess of Wales, 43, attended the first two awards ceremonies for the Earthshot Prize, joining her husband for the event in London in October 2021, followed by a second cycle in Boston in December 2022.

However, she did not join Prince William at the 2023 Earthshot Prize awards in Singapore. PEOPLE understood that Prince George had school exams that week, and his mother would be at home to support him.

The Princess of Wales also missed last year's ceremony in South Africa, as she spent most of the year out of the spotlight amid her cancer diagnosis and treatment.

This year, Kate will be focused not only on taking care of the kids during their half-term break from Lambrook School and her ongoing recovery after announcing she was in remission from cancer, but she's also seeing her family through a major transition.

The Prince and Princess of Wales' family plans to move from Adelaide Cottage in Windsor to the nearby Forest Lodge in the coming weeks, upgrading from the four-bedroom abode to the eight-bedroom home on the Windsor Great Park estate.

The relocation serves as a fresh start for the family, who have endured a trying few years since moving to Adelaide Cottage in August 2022. Following that transition, the royal family mourned the loss of William's grandmother Queen Elizabeth, as well as Kate and King Charles' dual cancer diagnoses.

While Princess Kate announced in January 2025 that she is in remission, King Charles, 76, continues to receive treatment. Prince William has admitted that it "was the hardest year I’ve ever had."

“Worry or stress around the family side of things does overwhelm me quite a bit," the prince said during his recent interview with Eugene Levy on the actor's Apple TV series, The Reluctant Traveler. "Because it’s more personal — it’s more about feeling, it’s more about upsetting the rhythm.”

The royal couple reportedly sees Forest Lodge as their long-term home, and they plan to stay even when William accedes to the throne.

The Wales family also has a country home, Anmer Hall, in Norfolk in the East of England, and a London base, Kensington Palace.

Remaining in the Windsor area will also keep the family connected to some of their favorite activities, which include nature and crafting.

Recently, it was revealed that Prince Louis has a passion for conkers, and Kate shared that the family had also embarked on another favorite of fall: pressing apples.

"We tried this at home with a hand press. It was quite good fun with the children. It was very messy," the princess said during her and William's visit to Long Meadow Cider in Craigavon, Northern Ireland, on Oct. 14.
