Demi Moore is sharing why she thinks her *A Few Good Men *costar Tom Cruise was “quite embarrassed” by her pregnancy at the start of the shoot.

The actress revealed at a recent New Yorker Festival event that she was almost eight months pregnant with her and then-husband Bruce Willis’ second daughter, Scout, when she started reading lines with Cruise and director Rob Reiner for the 1992 legal drama.

“I think Tom was quite embarrassed,” Moore remembered, per PEOPLE. “I actually felt okay about it. I was moving around, though, right? But I could tell he felt that it was a bit awkward.”

Moore went on to explain that she believes Cruise may have been uncomfortable with her pregnancy because many of their fellow Hollywood stars weren’t having children at the time due to the pressure of having to choose between being a parent and their career.

“It's one of the many things, for me, that I just felt didn't make sense. And so I challenged that to say, you know, ‘Why not? Why can't you have both?’” Moore recalled. "But with that, I think, came a lot of pressure I put on myself to, in a sense, prove that it was possible.”

A representative for Cruise did not immediately respond to *'*s request for comment.

As a result, Moore acknowledged that she turned into “a bit of an overachiever” just to prove to the world that she could balance being a successful actress and mom at the same time.

“I look back at that time now, and I go, ‘What the f--- was I thinking?’ And what was I even trying to prove? But it wasn't as supported as it is today,” she explained. “You know, to be breastfeeding and then blocking and rehearsing a scene.”

Moore also recalled feeling pressured to get into shape for the film even before the birth of her daughter.

“I was going to be in a military uniform, and probably overly anticipated and started working out and trying to get in shape even before she was born," Moore said. “I did a two-and-a-half-hour hike the day my water broke. I did a 24-mile bike ride, and then was dancing at a reggae club — hence why she came two-and-a-half weeks early.”

Thankfully, Moore noted that young mothers are much more "supported" on set these days.

Based on Aaron Sorkin’s play of the same name, *A Few Good Men* follows the legal drama that ensues after two U.S. marines are accused of killing a fellow marine. The film — which also starred Jack Nicholson, Kevin Bacon, Kiefer Sutherland, Cuba Gooding Jr., and more — was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
