I hope my Dolphins are taking notes ... this is a rebuild.

The Chicago White Sox are the first team in MLB history to make the playoffs after suffering consecutive 100-loss seasons, clinching a berth Thursday in a 9-1 thrashing of the Kansas City Royals. The franchise could also win the AL Central championship, with the White Sox beginning the day 1.0 game behind the Cleveland Guardians. The standings stayed the same after Thursday's games, with both teams winning.

Chicago has three regular-season games left, including a home series against the Colorado Rockies. Cleveland finished its current road series Thursday night against the Boston Red Sox before flying to Kansas City for its last three games against the Royals.

If you had told anyone two years ago that the South Siders would go from historically unwatchable baseball to October baseball, you would have been laughed out of the room.

Losing 100-plus games in three consecutive seasons usually earns a franchise at least a half a decade in purgatory. Instead, the White Sox hit rock bottom, stripped the engine down to the chassis, and actually rebuilt the damn thing the right way.

That's what pisses me off as a Miami Dolphins fan.

We've been fed every variation of the "five-year plan," "culture reset" and "trust the process" rhetoric known in modern sports. Yet somehow, we perpetually remain stuck in the swamp of mediocrity. Or we're just complete trash, like we are this season.

But hey, at least we have the Canes. *wink*
