The film’s post-credits scene showed his character Dane Whitman opening a box containing the Ebony Blade, a clear setup for his transformation into Black Knight. Five years later, that transformation still has not been materialized by Marvel.

Harington played Dane Whitman in Eternals, a movie that divided audiences and underperformed at the box office. The post-credits scene teased an exciting future. Dane touched the Ebony Blade while an off-screen voice, later confirmed as Mahershala Ali’s Blade, asked if he was ready. Fans expected a quick follow-up. Instead, Marvel shelved nearly every thread from that film.

So, he was asked about his MCU future in an interview with MovieWeb. He did not say no outright, but he offered little reason for optimism. “I mean, I’d love to. I don’t think there’s any plan to,” Kit Harington said.

“I hate to break it to you, but I think he’s a wicked character.” The actor explained what draws him to Black Knight. “There’s a part of him, that whole Ebony Blade stuff, where the more he kills, the worse he gets, the more addicted. I think he’s such a great parable of addiction. And I think he’s someone who starts good, goes bad. I think he’s great. But we’ll see. I don’t know if there’s any plan.”

Fans reacted with disappointment across social media. Many had hoped Harington’s star power and the character’s dark, medieval history would earn Black Knight another appearance. In Marvel Comics, Dane Whitman inherits a cursed sword that corrupts its wielder. The moral complexity fits Harington’s dramatic range perfectly.

The decision rests with Marvel Studios. Harington seems to remain willing to return. The multiverse era has revived forgotten characters before, so possibilities still exist. But without active plans from Marvel, Black Knight remains trapped in that box, waiting for a call that may never come.
