Congresswoman AOC recently opened up about freezing her eggs amid speculation about her potential run for president in 2028.

Over the weekend, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to Instagram Stories and shared that she had decided to freeze her eggs and opened up about undergoing fertility treatment. Later on Sunday, the New York congresswoman discussed it during her appearance on ABC's This Week. The Democrat also mentioned that she has not "ruled out the possibility" of running for president in next elections.

AOC's announcement made headlines, with many social media users questioning her decision despite her being engaged to her longtime partner, Riley Roberts. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Riley Roberts got engaged in April 2022.

According to PEOPLE, AOC and Riley Roberts met during their undergrad at Boston University and had dated for years before their engagement in 2022. In May 2022, Business Insider reporter Eliza Relman broke the news on Twitter that AOC confirmed to her that she had been engaged to Roberts. Later, the congresswoman confirmed the news by reacting to the post, writing:

"It’s true! Thank you all for the well wishes."

The Democrat also told the Insider reporter that she got engaged to Roberts "last month," which was April 2022. However, she did not share any plans about marriage and said:

"No future details yet, we're taking some space to savor this time before diving into planning," she said.

In clips shared on her Instagram Stories, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez opened up about her decision and showed the medications she had been taking for the procedure. She noted that she made the choice to "feel more in control" of her life. The politician said that she had been preparing for it for a long time. In one of her clips, she said:

"As women in general, we are not taught about our bodies, we are not prepared for our own lives, whether that is in puberty, whether that is in pregnancy, whether that is in perimenopause, menopause, whether that is in so many different aspects of our lives.”

In one of the clips, the congresswoman injected herself with medication, making viewers aware about the process.

“I want you all to see that. Because women can do anything. And I think it’s badass that I’m gonna be giving myself shots in the green room, get my glam on, roll out, talk international events, domestic policy, elections, pop out, live my life, do my thing," AOC said.

Later on Sunday's episode of This Week, while speaking on her public announcement of freezing eggs, she stressed that such conversations are "important for us to normalize."
