Just over a month until the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off, Adidas has released the most star-studded short film where football meets fashion, meets pop culture, meets community.

Dropped today, the five-minute short, titled “Backyard Legends: The Greatest Football Story Ever Told,” opens with none other than Timothée Chalamet, yelling over the phone to none other than Bad Bunny. “Hey! Listen to me. What do I know about soccer? Nothing. I know about football, Benito, football,” Chalamet says over his cell during a pit stop at a gas station shop.

The film then follows as Chalamet puts together his soccer “dream team”—composed of Olympic gold medalist Trinity Rodman, Real Madrid star midfielder Jude Bellingham, and FC Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal—in hopes of defeating a “local team” who has been undefeated since 1996, not even by legends David Beckham, Zizou, and Alessandro Del Piero.

The team bosses he’s trying to impress? Bad Bunny and Lionel Messi. No pressure.

The short film may be about perseverance, the passion for football, teamwork, and hope, but the fashion cannot be ignored. In the lead-up to the World Cup (which starts on June 11), brands like Adidas have been going hard on their elaborate team jerseys, vintage-inspired merch, and elevated football staples—taking the sport’s uniform into the high-fashion realm.

In the clip, Rodman debuts Adidas’s mustard-yellow jacquard jersey—paired with a chunky, teal flower necklace—and a slinky white Y2K tube top featuring the iconic three stripes. Chalamet stays true to his sporty street style in a gray hoodie, matching sweatpants, a classic black baseball cap, and OG Sambas, which will never lead you astray.

Bunny’s outfit, though, is unmatched; he is, after all, one of the brand’s most important collaborators. Up top: his navy balacklava crewneck with a detachable hood, from his own Adidas collection. Down low, matching sweatpantsand a pair of unreleased sneakers in shades of blue, to match his baby-blue Unfair Way hat.

The final scene of the short sees Messi and Bunny sitting together as they prepare to watch the heated match—Chalamet next to them, proud of his scrappy little team of modern-day icons. “You think they can win?” Benito asks. “Probably not,” Chalamet admits. “If they can’t, I’ll play,” Messi offers. “Hey, you were my backup plan,” Chalamet says with a smirk.

If there’s anything to learn from this electric short film, it’s that we’re in for a fashion-filled, star-studded World Cup season. And there will be some good football, too.
