Jack McCann recently shared his experience as a male nanny on Hulu's newest series, Million Dollar Nannies.
The NYC-based caregiver tells PEOPLE he faced more skepticism in Ibiza than he ever has in jobs back home
Still, McCann sees plenty of advantages to being a "manny" and feels "totally cool" working in a female-dominated industry
For Jack McCann, stepping into the spotlight of Hulu's Million Dollar Nannies meant doing more than showcasing the realities of working for the ultra-wealthy.
The New York City-based nanny, who has built a following online as the self-described "OG Manny," also found himself confronting assumptions that still exist around men working in childcare. And as one of only two male nannies featured on the series, McCann quickly realized his experience in Ibiza would be different from the one he had built back home.
"I've gotten questioned less in my jobs in New York and back home in Virginia," McCann tells PEOPLE exclusively. "So yeah, I feel like I hadn't really been met with as much skepticism as I was with the families in Ibiza."

Based in Manhattan's East Village, the 23-year-old has carved out a unique lane for himself in the childcare world, amassing more than 150,000 followers across TikTok and Instagram while popularizing the term "N.Y.C. manny."
Although he once considered a more conventional post-college path and even received a six-figure corporate job offer, McCann ultimately followed his passion for working with children — a decision that led him to Million Dollar Nannies.
The reality series follows a group of ambitious childcare professionals who travel to Ibiza to help launch a nanny-led agency serving high-net-worth clients.
Their responsibilities extend far beyond keeping children entertained and even include household tasks like grocery runs, meal preparation, managing ever-changing family schedules. The nannies are expected to keep every aspect of daily life running seamlessly while catering to the unique needs of both parents and children.
That balancing act became even more challenging when working for some of the families featured on the show, whose expectations often pushed the nannies outside of their comfort zones.

Looking back on the experience, McCann describes the clients as warm and well-intentioned but acknowledges that their standards could be really specific, at times.
"On the show, they're definitely… very unique," he says. "They're lovely people, but they're very particular, and the things they need and their requests are a little bit crazy."
While demanding employers are part of the job, McCann said the greater surprise was how often his qualifications were questioned in Ibiza compared to his experiences in New York and Virginia. Throughout his career, he's often found that many families appreciate the perspective a male nanny can bring, particularly when working with young boys.
"I think I got really lucky that I landed with a family that has two young boys, because some families do love having a male nanny because, you know, I can go play sports with their kids or I can just be another male role model for them, especially if, like, you know, the father travels a lot for work or anything," McCann explains. "So it has its perks."

Despite entering a profession where men remain the minority, McCann says he has always felt comfortable in the environment.
Whether spending time with fellow nannies in New York City or living alongside a largely female cast in Ibiza, he views the industry as a supportive community rather than an intimidating one.
"I'd rather be surrounded by girls anyway, so it's totally cool being in a female-dominated industry," McCann tells PEOPLE.
Million Dollar Nannies is now streaming on Hulu.
