There’s a Murder, She Wrote movie happening!
A film inspired by the classic TV series Murder, She Wrote is in the works at Universal, starring Jamie Lee Curtis as Jessica Fletcher. The film is from writers Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo and will be directed by Jason Moore.
“We’re a minute away. But very excited. Very excited,” Curtis said. “But I’m tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple other things to hustle and then I’ll get to enjoy that work.” The film will premiere December 22, 2027.
The original Murder, She Wrote starred Angela Lansbury, who passed away in 2022 at age 96, as Jessica Fletcher, a mystery novelist and amateur detective who solved murders, and ran for 12 seasons. It’s currently streaming on Tubi, and remains a favorite among cozy mystery fans.

There are no details yet as to how the movie will fit into the original series. It’s also as yet unclear if the story will take place in the fictional Cabot Cove, Maine, where Fletcher resided and solved many of the crimes in the TV show.
The news first broke while Schuker Blum and Angelo were discussing their film, Dumb Money, at TIFF. “We’ll tell you one thing that hasn't been reported yet, which is we have written a theatrical feature film version of Murder, She Wrote for Universal, and we’re really excited,” Schuker Blum told Collider. Angelo added it was “Jessica Fletcher’s time to return.”
We'll update this as soon as we learn more about the Murder, She Wrote film.
