This summer is the summer Isabella Briggs is locking into her skincare journey.
The 26-year-old actress, who made her debut in Prime Video's hit novel-turned-show The Summer I Turned Pretty last year as Denise Russo, is putting herself first and leaning into a beauty routine that her skin can get behind. So, when she sat down with PEOPLE for an exclusive interview about her partnership with Face Reality, she did not shy away from living with acne, still in her late 20s.
"Being an actor in the public eye, I think it's important to talk about these things and let people know that it's completely normal to be dealing with acne as an adult and that it's not something to be embarrassed about," she says.
Briggs went through the universal experience of getting acne when she was a teenager, and while she leaned on "quick fixes" to diminish her blemishes back then, she realized that her approach had to mature.

In honor of June's Acne Awareness Month, Briggs' partnership with Face Reality will see her go on a journey following the Clear Skin Method, which is a personalized, expert-guided program designed to treat acne.
"I had some pretty bad cystic and hormonal acne. I would say that triggers for me include stress and also environmental changes. As I've gotten older, my skin has actually gotten more sensitive, so having a routine that I can rely on and that is consistent has been the most important thing for me."

The foundation for that has been putting together a well-curated arsenal of Face Reality products that can come along with her especially on set or when she's traveling, circumstances she says that make her skin more vulnerable.
Her multistep process kicks off with double cleansing with Face Reality's Barrier Balance Creamy Cleanser, which she follows up with the Ultra Gentle Gel Cleanser. This is a "lifesaver" on days when she's filming and wearing makeup for 12 to 16 hours. Then, she goes in with the Soothing Radiance Toner to balance out redness. What she's learned over the years is that her skin drinks up hydrating formulas; so the brand's "acne-safe" Hydraremedy Serum and the Hydracalm Mask have earned a permanent spot in her lineup. Every other day, she'll go in with an exfoliating treatment too — but she leaves the heavy lifting to a professional.

Briggs works with celebrity esthetician Madalaina Conti, who she swears has "magic hands." When she first started seeing the pro, they discussed her condition in-depth, which made Briggs feel seen and supported. "If you are an acne girly or if you deal with sensitive skin, you understand how just the slightest wrong turn can take you off course completely," she says, noting that she's been seeing Conti every four weeks for a tailored treatment ever since.
Right now, it really isn't about achieving "perfect skin." Instead, Briggs' confidence comes from feeling secure in her regimen. "I'm really beginning to understand the language that my skin speaks and learning to listen to it and acknowledge it."
