Duncan McKenzie-McHarg, a beloved Australian sports reporter, died on Dec. 17 after falling from a building in Downtown Los Angeles. He was 41.
McKenzie-McHarg was based in the U.S. but was working for the Australian streamer Stan at the time of his death. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner listed the manner of McKenzie-McHarg's death in its case report as a suicide.
In a statement shared with news.com.au on Monday, McKenzie-McHarg's family called the journalist "a deeply loved son, a devoted father to his precious boy Harrison, and a cherished brother to his three siblings. His passing has come as an unimaginable shock, leaving our family heartbroken and at a loss."

His family continued, "Duncan was truly extraordinary. A man whose positivity, care, and humor touched everyone he met, and who sat at the heart of so many lives, bringing warmth, laughter, and joy wherever he went. Our Darling Ducky."

Originally from Melbourne, McKenzie-McHarg studied journalism at Monash University. His big break came via his idol, Eddie McGuire, the famed Australian TV and radio presenter and former president of the Collingwood Football Club. McGuire hired McKenzie-McHarg as a reporter for the Triple M Melbourne morning show "The Hot Breakfast" in 2010.
"Like everyone who was exposed to the sunny, optimistic, quirky joy of our friend and colleague Duncan McKenzie-McHarg, the news was heartbreaking and devastating," McGuire told the *Herald Sun* on Monday. "That he turned his natural happy and kind disposition into a skill set that disarmed the world's biggest stars and built his international career from scratch brought great admiration from his old mates."

After years of gumshoe reporting as a freelancer for Australian TV networks like Channel Seven, McKenzie-McHarg became a reporter for Channel Ten, where he developed a specialty with Grand Slam tournaments and NFL games.
Fox Sports tapped McKenzie-McHarg as a U.S. correspondent in 2017, and he moved to Southern California full-time in 2022. McKenzie-McHarg reflected on his ascendancy within the global ecosystem of sports journalism the following year, telling Australia's *Radio Today *that his secret to success was "forming relationships with the leagues, players, and partners to get unprecedented access to the biggest names. It's allowed me to interview sports stars like Tiger Woods, Novak Djokovic, and Shaquille O'Neal."
McKenzie-McHarg added that he was still operating on a crucial piece of childhood advice from his dad: "It doesn't matter if you fail because tomorrow is a new day and you can start again."**
