S.W.A.T. Exiles debuts Sept. 25 on Starz

Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson (Shemar Moore) is out of retirement and back in action in S.W.A.T. Exiles.
The new Starz series is a spinoff of the CBS procedural S.W.A.T., which ran for eight seasons, and catches up with Hondo two years after he was forced to retire from the LAPD. Hondo’s time away from S.W.A.T. comes to an end when he’s recruited to lead an experimental unit of talented but unconventional young officers who have struggled to find their place in the department.
As Hondo works to turn the mismatched recruits into a team, he faces clashing personalities and a major generational divide. But the stakes grow when he discovers there may be a mole within his squad and a conspiracy reaching into the upper levels of the LAPD and the mayor’s office.
“When you see this show, it’s darker, it’s grittier,” Moore told PEOPLE in September 2026. “It looks darker, it feels darker, it’s grittier — the tone — but it’s still S.W.A.T.”

S.W.A.T. Exiles premieres on Sept. 25. Unlike its parent series, which aired on CBS, the spinoff has a new home on Starz.
Moore first stepped into the role of Hondo nearly a decade ago, and keeping up with the physical demands of the character hasn’t gotten any easier. Speaking to PEOPLE in September 2026, the actor opened up about staying in S.W.A.T. shape at 56.
“In real life, I’m 56 years old, trying to move and look like I’m 30,” he said. “I owe it to Hondo to look a certain way and move a certain way. But also, to be honest, you have to be in shape to do this job. Like, it’s not just vanity.”

Season 1 of S.W.A.T. Exiles will feature 10 episodes, per Deadline, but fans already know there’s more Hondo on the way.
Starz renewed the series for a second season in August 2026 — more than a month before its premiere.
