The late Princess Diana’s proposed move to Althorp has resurfaced following new comments from her former bodyguard Ken Wharfe. He offered a different perspective on the long-running housing story involving Diana and her brother, Charles Spencer.

Speaking on “The Royals Uncensored“, Wharfe discussed Charles Spencer’s new memoir, “Swan Song,” and his portrayal of Diana’s life. He said Spencer had a point to make and argued that the book came from someone who cared deeply about his sister.

Wharfe then recalled his own involvement in Diana’s plans to stay at Althorp. According to the former protection officer, he accompanied Diana and Spencer to the estate while they looked at a house near the edge of the property. A designer also joined them during the visit.

At the time, Wharfe said Spencer was happy with the idea. However, security requirements eventually complicated the arrangement.

The former bodyguard recalled that local police wanted an additional six feet added to the estate’s perimeter wall. The proposed security work would have come at a major cost. Diana, according to Wharfe, did not want Spencer to shoulder that expense. As a result, the proposed move never happened.

The account adds context to the Charles Spencer Diana housing claim, which has attracted renewed attention following the release of Spencer’s memoir. Earlier accounts had portrayed the situation as Spencer refusing Diana a home at Althorp.

Wharfe suggested that the reality involved more complicated security considerations. His recollection also echoes earlier accounts that police advice played a role in discussions surrounding Diana’s potential residence at the estate.

The former officer also addressed Diana’s relationship with Spencer. He described the siblings as very close during the period when he worked with the Princess, although he acknowledged that they may have fallen out toward the end of her life.

Wharfe additionally rejected the idea that Spencer was profiting from Diana’s death. Instead, he said Spencer remained passionate about his sister and wanted to correct what he viewed as wrongs surrounding her life.
