Perez Hilton’s family is speaking out after the blogger was hospitalized following an troubling livestream in which Hilton appeared to self-harm on camera

The statement, released on Hilton’s website, confirmed that he was receiving medical treatment and asked that people respect his and his family’s privacy

Perez Hilton’s family is speaking out following the blogger’s hospitalization, which occurred after an upsetting livestream appeared to show Hilton committing acts of self-harm on camera, prompting emergency services to perform a welfare check at his Miami home on Tuesday, Aug. 4.In a statement shared on Perez Hilton’s main website on Wednesday, Aug. 5, Hilton’s family and team fans and followers on the blogger’s condition. “Many of you have reached out with concern for Perez, and we are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of love, support, and prayers,” the statement began, before confirming that Hilton was receiving medical care.“Our family’s focus right now is on his well-being,” the statement continued. “We kindly ask that you respect Perez’s privacy, as well as the privacy of his family, during this difficult time. If and when we are able to share any updates, we will do so with everyone as soon as we can. Thank you for your compassion, understanding, and continued support.”

On Wednedsay, PEOPLE obtained dispatch audio which confirmed that authorities had received reports of a “possible suicide” at around 6:51 p.m. local time at Hilton’s address. At around 7:59 p.m., dispatch audio described a police response to a “streamer known as Perez Hilton.”

At around 10:41 p.m., the audio described a “suicide attempt” at Hilton’s address, during which police requested assistance from fire services. His home was described as an “active police scene.” Per dispatch, authorities “made entry” into his home shortly after. Then, at around 11:30 p.m., responding units were “en route” to a local hospital.On Tuesday, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office previously confirmed to PEOPLE that officers were alerted to an individual broadcasting “acts of self-harm” during a livestream. Deputies went to the individual’s home and spoke with his family, who confirmed the person was in the home alone.

The sheriff’s office added that deputies were trained in “crisis intervention techniques” that prioritize de-escalation by creating time, distance and opportunities and communication in order to lower the risk of a “suicide-by-cop encounter,” as well as any injuries to the person, authorities and the public.The sheriff’s office also confirmed to PEOPLE that Hilton was hospitalized under Florida’s Baker Act — a state law that allows authorities to hold someone involuntarily for a period of time if they pose a threat of harm to themselves or others.Management for Hilton posted a statement on Aug. 5, reiterating that they did not have “any additional information to share regarding [Hilton’s’] condition.”“Should there be any verified updates appropriate for public release, they will come directly from Dante Rusciolelli at Golden Artists Entertainment,” the statement, posted to the Golden Artists LA Instagram account, read, in part.

Attorney Bryan Freedman, a friend who previously represented Hilton for 20 years, said in a statement to PEOPLE, “I, like many others, feel very concerned for Mario’s health and I am trying to confirm that he is receiving the care that he needs to fully address the causes and conditions which led to this incident. It feels like a moment that deserves kindness and compassion.”

Following Hilton’s hospitalization, his TikTok page was deactivated and banned for violating community guidelines pertaining to content featuring self-harm, the platform confirmed to PEOPLE.
