‘Paradise’ Boss Reveals Major Season 3 Character Returns

Paradise‘s third season is still coming together behind the scenes, but series creator Dan Fogelman has offered a peek behind the curtain in an all-new Instagram post that teases the returns of two major characters alongside leading man Xavier Collins (Sterling K. Brown).

Fogelman, who worked with Brown on NBC‘s family drama This Is Us, shared a photo of the actor alongside Jon Beavers and James Marsden, who appear to reprise their roles as Billy and President Cal Bradford. Anyone who has been tuning into Hulu‘s hit series since it debuted in early 2025 knows that both Billy and Cal have died within the timeline of the show, as Fogelman acknowledges in his accompanying text for the Season 3 tease.

“Two dead guys walk into a bar. #Paradise S3,” Fogelman wrote over the monitor image of the men sitting together at the bar, which appears to be the one that was found in the titular bunker that protected a certain select set of people from a deadly weather event.

The problem with that, of course, is that the bunker was destroyed at the end of Season 2 after Sinatra (Julianne Nicholson) sacrificed herself to shut it down before an irreversible meltdown, evacuating all inhabitants in the process. “One thing about Dan is that he CANNOT KEEP A SECRET,” star Krys Marshall commented, hinting at the potential importance of the scene.

While Billy and Cal may have both died in Season 1, they continued to appear through flashbacks in Season 2, and we’d imagine this moment, which finds them in the bunker’s bar, is also a flashback. Perhaps it’s a moment post-workout? As viewers may recall, whenever the president wanted to go for a run, he’d need a detail trailing behind him, and that’s where Xavier and Billy would have stepped in as Secret Service members.
