Well, the party in New York didn't last long.
After tests revealed that Jaxson Dart's knee injury is more severe than originally thought, the New York Giants quarterback is now facing the possibility of missing the rest of the season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
Dart's injury came in the opening possession of the 28-6 "Monday Night Football" defeat to the Los Angeles Rams. Following the game, Giants head coach John Harbaugh said that the team likely avoided a "devastating outcome" when it came to its quarterback's knee. And then came Tuesday.
According to Rapoport and Garafolo, who cited sources, Dart will be out for an extended period of time, and even worse: he could potentially undergo season-ending surgery.
Harbaugh stated Tuesday that Dart's knee is still being evaluated and didn't comment any further on when he could possibly return.

This has got to be tough for the Big Blue faithful to stomach ... yikes.
Just over a week ago, Giants fans felt something they hadn't experienced in years — genuine optimism. Dart looked electric in Week 1, bringing a swagger and dual-threat dynamism to this offense that finally made New York football watchable again.
The franchise finally appeared to have found its guy, someone capable of reviving a dormant fanbase and energizing MetLife Stadium. And the entirety of New York City while we're at it.
Now? That entire vision feels like it went up in smoke on just the seventh play of the game.
If Dart does go under the knife and misses the season, the Giants are effectively staring into the abyss. Yes, veteran backup Jameis Winston is in the building, and sure, he provides entertainment value.
But anyone who watched Monday's trainwreck knows what a Winston-led offense actually delivers: reckless deep balls, soul-crushing turnovers, and a squad that looks more like a high-wire circus act than a playoff contender. He's a bridge quarterback, not the destination.
Pray, Giants fans. You're on the verge of going from a thrilling new era straight into survival mode.
