Meghan Markle has reportedly been warned that placing blame on Kate Middleton, not just Prince William, could ruin hope of reconciliation. A source claims the Duchess of Sussex holds her sister-in-law partly responsible for a recent palace statement that distanced her and Prince Harry.

Meghan Markle reportedly isn’t only pointing fingers at Prince William over the palace’s statement. A source tells Heat World that the Duchess of Sussex believes Kate is “just as much to blame as William is.” Meghan is convinced her sister-in-law had a hand in keeping her and Harry on the outside of the royal fold. The insider said Meghan suspects it’s all part of a deliberate effort to turn King Charles against them.
The tension follows a sharply worded letter sent last week on King Charles’ orders. Written by the Lord Chamberlain, it conveys that Harry and Meghan hold no formal working role within the monarchy. It positions them instead as private individuals with commercial and charitable pursuits. The Sussexes say the letter caught them off guard, having visited Charles and Queen Camilla only two months earlier.
Some reports have speculated that Prince William supported the Palace’s decision to reiterate Harry and Meghan’s non-working status. However, there has been no public confirmation that William personally pushed for the wording of the letter.

This is not the first time Kate and William have been associated with the Palace’s response to Harry and Meghan. Royal author Valentine Low previously reported that the couple pushed for a stronger response to the Sussexes’ 2021 Oprah interview. Separately, claims have circulated that Kate helped word the Palace statement that said, “recollections may vary.” No public source has confirmed that specific claim.
The claims come as William and Kate have continued a series of public engagements in September. The source alleged that Meghan viewed the timing of their appearances negatively and believed they were trying to overshadow her and Harry. The source also claimed that the distance between the two women could make reconciliation more difficult.
Meghan and Kate haven’t crossed paths since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022. Their history includes the long-rumored bridesmaid dress clash over Princess Charlotte’s outfit ahead of the 2018 royal wedding.
