A costume company has filed a lawsuit against Kevin Costner and multiple entities associated with the production of his Western film Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2
The lawsuit alleges that Costner rented several "valuable costumes" for the film, and did not pay for them
The suit seeks more than $400,000, including $134,256.82 in unpaid costume fees
A company that lent costumes to the production of Kevin Costner's Western film Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 is suing the actor and producers for breach of contract, and is seeking more than $400,000.
The suit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday, Dec. 22, alleges that Costner, 70, and his co-defendants, which include multiple entities connected with the Horizon: An American Saga, entered into an agreement with the Western Costume Leasing Company to provide "valuable costumes" for the film, according to the complaint viewed by PEOPLE.
The complaint alleges that Costner and his co-defendants failed to make timely payments for the costumes, racking up a bill of $134,256.82. The suit alleges that the producers of Horizon did "not dispute receipt of the costumes nor quality of them," according to the complaint.
It further alleges that the rented costumes were used in the film, and that the producers failed to pay multiple invoices.
The lawsuit seeks more than $350,000 in damages, including the $134,256.82 in unpaid costume rentals and $150,000 in economic damages. Western Costume Leasing Company also seeks $200,000 in attorney's fees and $40,000 in accrued interest on the bills.
The lawsuit also seeks $100,000 in punitive damages, and "such further relief as the Court deems just and proper," according to the filing.
PEOPLE has reached out to Costner and the Western Costume Leasing Company for comment on the lawsuit.

Kevin Costner in 'Horizon: An American Saga, Chapter 1.'
Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2 is the second installment in Costner's Western epic film series, which stars Costner alongside Sienna Miller, Giovanni Ribisi and many others. After Chapter 1 disappointed at the box office, Chapter 2's theatrical release was postponed. However, it was screened at the Venice International Film Festival in September 2025 and the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in February. Chapter 1 also found success once it reached streaming platforms.
Costner spent at least $38 million of his own money on the production of the films, a decision he's vehemently defended.

“That’s the message I want my kids to understand about who I am: that I do what I believe in,” Costner told GQ in May 2024 of taking the financial risk on the films. “I have fear like everybody else. I don’t want to be humiliated.”
Costner has reportedly struggled to secure funding for the final two installments of the Horizon saga. In 2024, he met with "top Saudi officials" to discuss financing for the two films, but the deal ultimately fell through, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

This isn't the first lawsuit associated with the making of the Horizon films. In May, stunt performer Devyn LaBella filed a complaint alleging that she was "the victim of a violent, unscripted, unscheduled rape scene directed by Kevin Costner."
In her suit, LaBella claims that she was asked by Costner to "stand in" for lead actress Ella Hunt in a scene that involved a sexual assault "without proper notice, consent, preparation, or appropriate safeguard measures in place."
LaBella also alleged in the suit that Hunt walked off the film's set after refusing to do the scene.
In a court filing, Costner responded to LaBella's allegations, calling them "absolutely false."
“Devyn's claims against me are absolutely false, and it is deeply disappointing to me that a woman who worked on our production would claim that I or any other member of my production team would make one of our own feel uncomfortable, let alone suffer the ‘nightmare’ she has invented,” Costner wrote in the declaration.
