Kate Middleton gracefully saved what could have been a wardrobe malfunction as she attended the historic church service installing the first female Archbishop of Canterbury.
On March 25, Princess Kate joined Prince William at the ceremony installing Dame Sarah Mullally as the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury at Canterbury Cathedral.
Footage shared on Instagram showed that Princess Kate quite literally had to hang on to her hat as outside the cathedral in the strong wind. The windy weather rustled everything from the Princess of Wales' Suzannah London coat to a clergyman's robes, and Kate held onto her Juliette Botterill Millinery Houndstooth Straw Boater to ensure the wide-brimmed headpiece didn't blow away.

It was hardly the first time that Princess Kate had to navigate such a situation. In March 2023, she and Queen Camilla similarly faced major wind when they arrived to attend the annual Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey, hanging on to their hats in the windy conditions. Back in October 2018, Princess Eugenie's royal wedding guests also faced strong gusts, with many clinging to their elaborate headpieces as they entered the cathedral.
The late Queen Elizabeth reportedly would have small weights sewn in the hemlines of her dresses to ensure they stayed down in windy weather, a fashion hack that Princess Kate may utilize too.

A close look showed that her Suzannah London ensemble was specifically the Washington Prince of Wales check Cashmere Coat, with Kate rocking a pattern that paid homage to William's Prince of Wales title.
The Prince of Wales check is a classic gray, black and white plaid timeless across both men's and women's style and a pattern that Princess Kate has played with wearing since King Charles named Prince William as the Prince of Wales, the traditional title for the male heir to the throne, in 2022.
