"There’s never been anybody like Justin," wrote the band's lead singer Leigh Nash in a tribute on Instagram
Justin Cary, longtime bassist in Sixpence None the Richer, has died. He was 50.
Cary died on Thursday, June 18 after recently suffering a stroke, according to Sixpence None the Richer's lead singer Leigh Nash and a GoFundMe set up to support the bassist and his wife, Linda.
"Justin passed peacefully this morning and Linda was next to him," read a statement posted to the GoFundMe. "Please continue to pray and give strength during this very difficult time."
Per the fundraiser page, Cary "suffered a serious stroke" last week and was receiving care at Albany Medical Center in New York. "He has had two surgeries and is in the ICU," read a statement on the page earlier this week.
On Wednesday, June 17, another statement was shared to the GoFundMe noting that Cary was "in the ICU and on a respirator."
"Linda is right next to his bed reading to him and hopeful he hears her. She is also telling him how much he is loved," continued the note.
Earlier this week, Nash, 49, directed fans to the GoFundMe as she spoke about Cary on Instagram. "We love our brother so so much. Words don’t cover it. I know so many out there love him too," she wrote.

Nash continued, "Saw his brilliance, second to NONE professionalism, class, humor (oh my lord the humor) wit, tough as an old boot as they say. Many more adjectives to describe him. Please pray for Justin and Linda."
Following his death, Nash shared another post in tribute to the bassist. "‘We sure had a great time’ is an understatement. Thank you, Justin," she began.
"We love you forever. Please keep his dear Linda close to your hearts. She is our family," continued Nash. "There’s never been anybody like Justin."

Sixpence None the Richer was formed in 1992, and Cary joined the band in 1997 — the same year the group's self-titled album was released featuring the hit song "Kiss Me," which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 2000, "Kiss Me" was nominated for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at the Grammy Awards.
Beyond Cary's work in the band, according to his website, he's played bass with acts including Counting Crows, Jennifer Knapp and Lee Brice.
