The State of the Union was not strong, according to Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert.
The late-night hosts both went on the air Tuesday night to share their immediate reactions to President Donald Trump's first official State of the Union address Feb. 24 of his second term.
Kimmel described it as an "angry" address, which was "like a Christmas message from the Grinch," and asked, "When you ramble mostly incoherently for two hours, is that technically still a speech, or does it, at some point, become a conniption fit?"
USA TODAY has reached out to the White House for comment.
The "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" host also had a field day with the historic length of the address, which at 1 hour and 47 minutes was the longest on record. "He's probably still going, right?" Kimmel joked before quipping, "They do need to hire an orchestra to play him off like the Oscars. At the stroke of 90 minutes, go straight into 'YMCA' and end it."

Comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night talk show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!", will resume production after it was pulled off the air Sept. 17, following comments he made in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s killing. Kimmel, a frequent critic of Donald Trump, often earned the ire of the president. After the announcement, Trump urged other networks to do the same. During his address, Trump told lawmakers that "our nation is back" and characterized the United States as being in a "golden age" on the year of its 250th birthday. The president discussed everything from the economy and his immigration agenda to Charlie Kirk, whose widow, Erika Kirk, was in attendance.

But Kimmel in his monologue laid out what he described as the "real state of the union," which is that the United States is being led by a "nutjob wannabe king."

Colbert also went live on "The Late Show" after the State of the Union and concluded that there "really wasn't much new material" in Trump's address.
While Colbert noted the speech came during an important moment when Trump grapples with low approval ratings, he suggested it would be unlikely to change anyone's mind about the president and his agenda.

"It was a dark speech, filled with divisive lies, and it's unlikely to win him much support with the voters who have grown disenchanted with the chaos and dysfunction of his second administration," the comedian said.
Colbert also poked fun at the theme of the speech being "America at 250: Strong, Prosperous and Respected," joking, "If you have to say you're strong, prosperous and respected, it kind of feels like you're not."
This was Colbert's final time covering a presidential State of the Union address on "The Late Show," which is set to air its final episode in May after CBS canceled the show last year.
Jimmy Fallon also joked about Trump's address on "The Tonight Show," telling viewers that the president's speech "focused on his major accomplishments, and when those eight seconds were up, he just riffed for an hour and a half."
