Fey is one of the most successful graduates of the *SNL *academy in the 51-year history of the show, going on to create Emmy-winning series like *30 Rock *and *Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt*, star in acclaimed films like *Mean Girls* and *Sisters*, and even produce series like *The Four Seasons *and *The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins*.
But why choose a Yankee to do a Brit's job? Surprise guest Nicola Coughlan asked Fey that frank question during her monologue on Saturday's premiere episode.
"Shouldn't it be, like, a British icon like David Beckham? Or Judi Dench? Or, like, Shrek?" asked the *Bridgerton *actress, who originally hails from Ireland. Fey responded, "How do I put this politely? None of you f---ers would do it. Does that make sense?"
The *SNL UK *cast is comprised of Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracres, Ania Magliano, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep, Emma Sidi, and Paddy Young. Lorne Michaels, who created *SNL *in America in 1975, executive produces the series, as he's done for most films based on characters originated on the series, from *Wayne's World *to *Superstar*.
The series' lead producer is James Longman, who previously served as a producer on a wide variety of comedy series, from *The Late Late Show With James Corden* to *Never Mind the Buzzcocks *and *Alan Carr: Chatty Man*.
Jonno Johnson, who wrote for series like *Siblings*, *Wedding Season*, and *The Midnight Beast *is the series' head writer, while *Have I Got News For You* alum Charlie Skelton writes the U.K. take on the popular, satirical news segment "Weekend Update."
