If you were frequenting the theaters in the early 2000s, chances are you saw Holes on the big screen — especially if you read the beloved book.
The equally cherished movie adaptation was brought to life by a stellar ensemble that included Khleo Thomas, who played young Zero in the film and is now 36 years old.
Thomas' character is perhaps the most favorited of the bunch, and the actor recently opened up to People about how shooting the project was life-changing.
"Everything about it was such an eye-opening experience, and to make my dreams come true at that young age, to see myself on a film screen, it really means a lot when I look back on it," Thomas told the magazine in an interview article published on Sunday, Dec. 21. "I got a chance to accomplish something very early. It has been a great journey ever since."
He also faced some challenges while shooting Holes, which he shared about with People.
"I remember it still today. I don't know what happened. We had been in the desert a month by that time, and all of a sudden, maybe they changed the material of the suit that I had on, I don't know, but inside my legs: heat rash," he said. "I'm itching, scratching. My mom asked me what's going on. I end up showing her, and then she goes to the set medic, and they give her some lotion."
The actor and rapper continued, "But the lotion had something that made it burn so bad. Somewhere on the internet is a photo of me just standing in my trailer, and my face is angry because I was on fire."
Thomas — who recently partnered with Fruit Loops for a new campaign — shares some endearing scenes in Holes with Shia LaBeouf, who made headlines earlier this month after revealing a massive new back tattoo. Some fans speculated that the image of a young girl might be a tribute to his daughter, whom he shares with Mia Goth.
