Famous Donald Trump mimic and SNL star James Austin Johnson shares what's so iconic about his impressions

Saturday Night Live star James Austin Johnson reportedly recreated his Donald Trump mimic during an interview in The Good Stuff with Mary Berg. The New York Times reported that James became famous after showing his free-flowing imitation of public figures like Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
Now, he hopes his new comedy special on Gorilla Comedy+ proves he can do more than impersonations. In The Good Stuff with Mary Berg, he mimicked Trump with one of his made-up dialogues and further explained the SNL version of Trump was actually him.
James's mimicry was special on SNL because he reproduced a subject's precise cadence, rhythm, and unique mannerism instead of depending on rough caricature. When he was 32, he had already mimicked Joe Biden twice in SNL along with Joe Buck, Adam Driver, Jon Gruden, Louis C.K., and Lindsey Graham.

The SNL star James Austin Johnson is famous for doing mimicry of famous personalities from Bob Dylan to Donald Trump. In The Good Stuff with Mary Berg, he mimicked Trump using one of his made-up dialogues from SNL.

"We've been waiting a very long time for that Negroni. This is much too long. It's a three-ingredient drink. We're very thirsty. Very thirsty."
He said this statement in episode 15 of Saturday Night Live after Colin Jost laughed and remarked that James did not seem to put much effort into his impressions. The Wrap mentioned that Johnson continued performing and delivered what was considered his strongest impression of the night, showing Trump at a restaurant ordering a cocktail with the famous statement.
What's so special about James Austin's impression?
The Nashville-born comedian is best known for his wide range of celebrity impressions and prosthetic work. Donald Trump is one of his breakout viral impressions, which is still now widely praised among Austin's fans. James is also famous for doing mimicry of Joe Biden and Mitch McConnell.
Apart from government officials, he has also mimicked Bob Dylan, Andrea Bocelli, Noel Gallagher, Cameron Winter, and Adam Driver. In The Good Stuff with Mary Berg, he explained that when someone is a fan of the show and watches it closely, they can usually imagine where they might fit in, even though opportunities do not come up very often.
He shared that he approached his audition with the belief that SNL needed someone like him, and so, he decided to highlight a specific side of his comedy to demonstrate how he could fit seamlessly into the cast.
