Predictably, LeBron James' decision to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers has reignited the ageless "ring-chasing" conversation. Never mind that James will be 42 in late December and will likely play more of a super role-player role for the 76ers.

Derek Fisher is having none of this nonsense.

In a conversation on his morning radio show on 97.1 The Fan in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Lakers legend pointed out a key contradiction in the thought process of anyone who has ever thought James was ring-chasing. Per Fisher, it can't be ring-chasing if you're the reason the very idea of winning a ring only exists because of you. That's ... honestly a great way to think about James and his entire illustrious career with full context.

Everywhere he's gone, for the most part, people would only talk about that specific team potentially winning a title because of James' general track record and presence. That is the natural effect and baked-in assumption for someone that a sizable portion of basketball fans believe is the best player of all time. I find it harder to translate that sentiment to an older version of James, who will probably be more of a "do the little winning stuff" for the 76ers, but it nonetheless holds. The 76ers are now a serious title contender, partly because they're adding someone like James, who is so cerebral and remains an effective player who can probably play a major role on a potential championship-caliber team.

The 76ers are James' fourth NBA team. He has stated that he believes the 76ers will give him a legitimate chance to win the fifth NBA title of his career. Make no mistake: That Philadelphia discussion of high expectations only really exists because of James.
