HBO’s upcoming *Harry Potter* series is a world of wizardry for a new generation — and that includes Daniel Radcliffe's son!

The original Harry appeared on *The Late Show with Stephen Colbert** *on March 2 and talked about passing the proverbial wand to Dominic McLaughlin, the young actor starring in the upcoming TV adaptation of the Potter novels. As it turns out, the casting also plays a magical role in the Radcliffe household.

"I'm actually delighted that when my kid grows and is into *Harry Potter*, he can watch a version that is not me,” Radcliffe joked. “I feel like watching it with your dad would be less cool. It would take you out of it… And that means that at some point there will be somebody else to answer all the *Harry Potter* questions and I can pass that on to them too.”

It's certainly not unusual for various actors to portray an iconic character throughout the years. As Radcliffe noted, in his lifetime alone the Spider-Man suit has been donned by Tobey Maguire (Sam Raimi's movie trilogy), Andrew Garfield (*The Amazing Spider-Man* series), and Tom Holland in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"There will always be many, many iterations," Radcliffe reasoned to Colbert. "So I'm very happy to see it passed onto somebody else, and best of luck to all of them."

Radcliffe, who is currently starring on Broadway in *Every Brilliant Thing*, made his debut as Harry Potter in 2001's *Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone*, the first of eight films in the film franchise based on J. K. Rowling’s fantasy novels.

As he successfully broke the “child star curse” with an award-winning career on the stage and screen, Radcliffe also found love: He met actress Erin Darke on the set of 2013’s *Kill Your Darlings* and the couple welcomed a son in April 2023. The toddler isn't yet aware of *Harry Potter* and Radcliffe is enjoying the anonymity while it lasts. "For as long as I can just be his dad, and he won't know me as anything else, I will maintain that for as long as I can," he recently told *The New York Times*.
