Nearly two years after Cole Brings Plenty's death, the Taylor Sheridan universe is continuing to pay tribute to the late actor.
Cole, the nephew of Yellowstone and Marshals actor Mo Brings Plenty, starred in the first season of 1923 as Pete Plenty Clouds. In April 2024, he was found dead a few days after being reported missing and named a suspect in a domestic violence case.
In March 2026, Mo spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about his nephew's "heartbreaking" death, saying he "was like a son to me."
In the April 5 episode of Marshals, which is also a spinoff of Yellowstone, Monica (Kelsey Asbille) was honored on the first anniversary of her death with a remembrance ceremony on the Broken Rock reservation.
Marshals star Arielle Kebbel revealed to PEOPLE that the scene doubled as a real memorial for Cole.

Cole was reported missing in early April 2024.
His uncle, Mo, shared a missing persons poster of Cole on Instagram at the time, which noted that he reportedly missed an appointment with his agent for a TV show, which was "uncharacteristic" of him and raised alarm bells for his family.
Hours later, the Lawrence Police Department released a statement naming Cole as a suspect in an incident that involved "allegations of domestic violence."
Per the release, authorities "responded to reports of a woman screaming for help" in an apartment on the morning that Cole was last seen. After an investigation identified Cole as a suspect, traffic cameras allegedly showed him "leaving the city immediately after the incident."
Police additionally said they had "probable cause" for Cole's arrest.

A few days after being reported missing, authorities announced in a press release that Cole's body was discovered in a rural area of Kansas on April 5, 2024, after deputies received reports about an unoccupied car.
"Deputies checked the area and discovered a deceased male in a wooded area away from the vehicle," the sheriff's office wrote in the release, noting that the deceased male was identified as Cole.

Nearly two years after Cole's death, Mo spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and claimed that his nephew's death went "uninvestigated."
"And for his murder to go uninvestigated, and for it to be written off as 'no foul play,' because they didn’t want to invest anything into it? It’s heartbreaking," he alleged. "Because we’re taxpaying people as well. So for them to not work for us, no different than how they work for anyone else is pretty sad."
Mo alleged that "the departments didn’t put much effort into" investigating the circumstances of Cole's disappearance and death, and claimed that they "weren't even really looking for him."
In response, a spokesperson for the Lawrence Police Department addressed Mo's claims to PEOPLE, saying that they "provided a complete, in-person presentation of the evidence to the family."
"The family chose not to release the facts. Out of compassion, we complied with their wishes," the spokesperson said, noting that Cole's family petitioned the court to "seal" several parts of the case, including the autopsy report and medical examiner's file.
"The entire case contains clear evidence that there was no foul play involved in Cole’s death and that Cole acted alone. Any confusion and speculation are a result of the family’s messaging," the spokesperson said, adding that they are willing to release a full report of their investigation with the family's permission.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office also shared a statement with PEOPLE and said they "conducted a thorough investigation in the death of Cole Brings Plenty and revealed these findings to the family."

Cole's death has been memorialized through several shows in the Sheridan world.
In February 2025, 1923 paid tribute to Cole in its season 2 premiere by showing a photo of the actor alongside an "In Memoriam" message as the episode started. It was also later revealed that his character, Pete, was recast.
Cole continued to be honored on-screen, including in the April 5 episode of Marshals, which included a remembrance ceremony for Monica, but acted as a chance for Mo to mourn the loss of his nephew.
Following the episode, actress Kebbel told PEOPLE that Mo brought his family to set as they filmed the ceremony.
"I will remember that day for as long as I live. It was very emotional," Kebbel said. "And it was a real reminder that the lines between art and life are very blurred and very powerful."
