Britney Spears was arrested in California on Wednesday night. **

The pop icon was taken into custody by California Highway Patrol in Ventura County, Calif., around 9:30 p.m., per the Sheriff's Office arrest records. She was subsequently booked and released at 6 a.m. Thursday morning. **

Spears was reportedly arrested on a charge of driving under the influence, law enforcement sources told TMZ. The arrest is noted as a “cite and release” and has no probation listed. Her next court date is set for May 4, 2026.
