John Mellencamp first confirmed his relationship with Kristin Kehrberg in August 2023

John Mellencamp and his girlfriend, Kristin Kehrberg, have been going strong for three years and counting.

The "Hurts So Good" singer and the movie producer first hit it off when they met at a house party in New York City. He confirmed the timeline of his relationship with Kehrberg during an August 2023 interview with Bill Maher.

While chatting with the comedian on his Club Random podcast, the recording artist revealed he met his girlfriend “seven months ago” and that “she has not left my side in seven months.”

Mellencamp offered another rare update on his life with Kehrberg in October 2024, when he told PEOPLE that their relationship is "good for me."

“So far, so good. Knock on wood,” he said. “We get along great. She’s been married, I’ve been married. You know, we’re adults, so you don’t have those kind of jealousy, young things.”

Kehrberg was there to support Mellencamp when his daughter, Teddi Mellencamp, presented him with the Icon Award at the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards on March 26.

Prior to dating Kehrberg, Mellencamp was engaged to actress Meg Ryan and briefly linked to model Christie Brinkley.

Kehrberg was previously married to Richard “Dick” Tarlow, who died in May 2022. The news was confirmed by Ad Age, which noted that her late spouse was an ad executive.

The New York Times reported that Tarlow died “peacefully in his sleep with his wife Kristin Kehrberg by his side." The outlet also confirmed that his children were with him at the time of his death.

She has worked as a movie producer

Kehrberg is also familiar with working with A-listers, as she previously worked as a movie producer. She is credited for working on the 2017 rom-com The Wilde Wedding, which starred actress Glenn Close.

Mellencamp’s girlfriend was listed as a producer on the project, which also starred John Malkovich, Star Trek’s Patrick Stewart and Twilight star Peter Facinelli.

Mellencamp met Kehrberg in January 2023

The father of five opened up about the details of his romance with Kehrberg during his August 2023 interview with Maher. Mellencamp revealed that he met his girlfriend serendipitously at home.

“She's a beautiful 57-year-old woman who just walked into my apartment in New York unexpectedly,” Mellencamp told the talk show host. “She was with a couple of friends. She walked in. She didn't know I was going to be there. I didn't know she was there. We met each other.”

Mellencamp said Kehrberg has “never” been “angry” with him

The Grammy Award winner told Maher that Kehrberg has “never” been upset with him. When the comedian joked that Mellencamp and his love were in “the golden period” of their relationship, he was quick to reassure him that she’s "never even got angry" with him.

"It's so hard to believe. I know,” Mellencamp said during the podcast. “She has a really high threshold for tolerance.”

She has lived in New York City

Kehrberg met Mellencamp in N.Y.C., the city she calls home. Six years before her late husband’s death, the two purchased a home on the Upper East Side, per the New York Post.

During her time in New York, Kehrberg has attended many events among A-listers. In June 2018, she attended the 18th Annual Midsummer Night Drinks Benefiting God's Love We Deliver event with her late husband.

The former couple was also photographed at the same event one year later. The charity event takes place in the Hamptons annually and is often attended by more than 400 people, per the organization’s website.

She has two children

Mellencamp is not the only parent in his relationship, as Kehrberg has two children of her own. She welcomed two sons during a prior relationship, per Page Six. However, not much is publicly known about them.

During her marriage to Tarlow, she was also a stepmother to his children. The late father welcomed three kids during a prior relationship, per The New York Times.

The rocker’s girlfriend is not only passionate about making movies, but she also spends her free time attending fashion shows. Kehrberg was photographed at the Patrick Demarchelier special exhibition preview in September 2015.

While at the event, she wore a gray short-sleeved turtleneck blouse and leather skirt. She accessorized the look with open-toe heels and sunglasses and styled her blonde hair in a ponytail.
