Aldi cuts prices on hundreds of items as grocery inflation climbs

Aldi is bucking the trend of rising grocery costs by slashing prices on a third of its products.
The grocery chain said that the price cuts will save its customers an estimated $86 million.
"Customers trust us to help them make the most of their grocery budget, and we never stop looking for ways to run our business more efficiently so we can pass along savings," Scott Patton, Aldi's chief commercial officer, said in a press release.
"As shoppers head into fall routines and healthier habits, we're making additional investments to lower prices on our better-for-you favorites, building on the value customers already see throughout our stores."

The announcement comes hot off the heels of food industry experts warning that grocery inflation was expected to increase through next year at FMI, The Food Industry Association's, Thursday briefing.
Grocery inflation in August rose just 2.2%, down from 2.7% in the previous three months, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Fuel costs were cited as the primary factor driving the fluctuations. Diesel cost last month averaged $5.60 per gallon in August, but has jumped up to $6.52 as of Wednesday. Diesel was just $3.69 per gallon a year ago.
What products will have a lower price?
The company didn't provide a list of items it has cut prices on, but it did provide a few examples.
Fall staples like Bartlett pears, Brussels sprouts, butternut squash and spaghetti squash have lower prices. Aldi also noted that its Kirkwood chicken breast family packs are down to $1.99 per pound, which is the lowest they've been since 2022.
When do Aldi's price cuts go into effect?
Aldi's reduced prices went into effect on Wednesday and will run until at least Nov. 3, according to the release.
